Mending Life’s Collars:

A Reflection on Wishes

Walking through our streets, I wish we mend another’s torn collar, a beggar’s broken nail, his ragged asbestos roof in gutter; if we could

de-clutter traffic jams burnt red and white green signals, zebra crosses running feet, slow ones staggery under walking stick;

the Thought* sits across my shoulders, It scrambles in home, arrests head in pillow, crosses zebras in my dream –

I wake up. I see It* brush my teeth, my hair; give me nice dress to wear, manicure the next hour, beg, tear my eyes. “Careful

careful what you wish for, I’m not God, “ I whisper. The Thought/Wish hears, waits then goes out the door, with a –

-ragged Jesus – not leaving! His torn collar, broken nail, staggering under my roof to keep me off the gutter….

What you’ve done for the least of these, you’ve done it unto Me..” ( quote: The Bible).
