‘Miracle under your feet’ @ Lalibella.

“Necessity is the mother of Invention.” Whose proverb is this?

Coffee, discovered here 1000+ years ago, was noticed by a Goatherd Kaldi who saw his goats more playful after eating bright red berries. He found it good for himself! By 15AD, Ethiopian coffee was exporting to Yemen & soon, to all!

Nj’s friend Zuben has work in Ethiopia – he gives us some great coffee from there.

Ethiopia, (coffee & Jebena pot to brew it, served with popcorn, injera breads)…hosts Universal Appeal for something more than its roasted coffee. Locals whisper of a unique crew that worked on “downward” carvings, at night. When workmen returned at dawn, they saw some impossible chiseling.

ROCK ANGELS @ LALIBELLA

Why did angels need to step in; what was the need to dig down neath rock? Why not the more conventional methods of architecture? History records a prohibition to visit the Holy Land, which stirred their local King to build Structures reflecting Jerusalem. (See Giet Golgotha*, below where a fragment of the Cross rests today).

🌱🌏🌿

I step into this territory and the air is different. The people are devout, they are poor, they can survive on like Rs200/- per month. When they pray, you cry. They fast to pray. Also, there’s the piece of the Cross in Biet Golgotha*. They don’t even want much publicity, Their Christianity is powerful.” Zuben says.

I looked it up. Its true! I’ve posted a few pictures here, but you must read the entire account for yourself to see how unusual this is.

Rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia-
12th century, solid volcanic rock, are  UNESCO’s World Heritage Site often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. Commissioned by King Lalibela, these structures were not built, but rather “revealed” by carving into unseen terrain, 4 churches stand completely free, creating a ‘New Jerusalem’ wrought with mystery. Stirring uncanny religious devotion; un-replicable engineering, they were all built in 24 years!

Who plans an entire layout from the top? How could any human, centuries ago, calculate the depth of that base, from its roof already, …the unimaginable scale including doors, windows, columns, various floors, roofs, extensive drain ditches, trenches and ceremonial passages, to hermit caves, catacombs..?”

Yes, why did they need to dig in to rock, to carve out these churches? It worked faster with Divine intervening? It beat human method, it was the product of a ‘prohibition‘? I’m asking.

King Lalibela constructed a 12th century ‘New Jerusalem’, after Muslim conquests halted Christian pilgrimages to the holy Land.

It truly is a “Miracle under your feet,” as is celebrated. ‘One man’s idea, from angelic architects, 124 churches , across the Northern Highlands, Tigray, built to mirror Jerusalem, still serve as a major pilgrimage site for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and a Globe hacking at the Supernatural.

Church of Biet Golgotha :
replicas of the tomb of Christ, and of Adam, and the crib of the Nativity. The holy city of Lalibela substituted the holy places of Jerusalem, Bethlehem.

Generated Image:, of piece of the True Cross, (“Gimade Meshkel”), at Gishen monastery. Reportedly given to Emperor Dawit I in the 14th/15th century by Patriarch of Alexandria. Home to a large community of priests and monks, it is a living site which draws many pilgrims to celebrate the great feasts of the Ethiopian Christian calendar.

From coffee grounds to these mindblowing details, I had to look it all up via my little phone, and must say –

it is a miracle to even know about these feats put together by Holy Craft I may never understand nor see in this life. Am staring at Images who believes, except perhaps those who go close and touch these miracles for themselves ?

If you’re in the region of Ethiopia, how blest you are, to witness such incredible architecture. How blest you are, you who pray like that, and make a place holy, by your faith. God bless technology for bringing these truths close,

God bless people like you for whom Angels work.

The sharpest invention for me is the Smartphone (2007): it transformed industries by combining cameras, internet access, and apps into daily, pocket-sized tools!

Sure, the phone, smart and all, has its negatives. That said, it does make blogging simpler, leave alone checking facts and images for real, the world over.

Sunday tomorrow, have a blessed one. God knows what you need. If Necessity is the momma of Invention, God is Father of Divine Interventions.

😇
