The Power of being a little more than Human

FMF Writers: Cold

With Yona

At the Mall last night. we get to its first floor foodcourt and a middle aged man settles next to our son Yona. He’s looking friendly and keen to chat. “Oh no. ” I think, disappearing from the scene to get us some sandwiches. It is near 6 pm. From the corner of my eye I see him make friends with Yona.

Not anything to complain about, just that soon there will be questions about Eye care and have we really checked son’s retina. Then the sweet talk about blind people being compensated with other gifts.

By the time I get back with our sandwiches, Yona and newman are talking about favorite colors ! Says he hasn’t thought of his Fav color in years! I try not to get in the middle of this but new man says hello. I wait for a next sentence, a query about eye care, or what our son is going to “work towards”?!

This has been the trend at social conversation. Yona is recovering from too many things he shouldn’t have had to recover from. We learned to put on mental helmets and brave this at its worst. Now things are so much better, but my heart seems to have sunk in, in public esp. Here expectations are high.

But not today.

Today we are met by a true gentleman who decides to just hang out with our son, like they’re a couple of human beings. (Aren’t they?) ..not giving any advice, not checking us out for flaw, no hint of a challenge, or disadvantage, not even ‘encouraging’ words that can put one off for reasons who knows

this is just plain simple human chat, as if there’s no blindness going on here. Yona isnt awkward about who he is, or what he represents.

Its just me that went cold a bit there. As I write this I’m thinking how we’re each a planet full of weather conditions. We learn coping skills, we try shield each other from the whatevers of social co- existence. But what a surprise it is, to spend a few moments with someone who can just be human. No confusion and worry, no trying to fix someone, not the slightest condescension, or uncalled for frost.

And I get the sense of Christ walking among us at that Mall full of empty large spaces, giant chandeliers, and enough food to fill our hungry pavements outside…

-get a sense of Christ warming my cold core inside recently, at how cruel some are not just in conversations, but also other areas ….rascim. Like it or not, we are taking sides: the weak and the strong. The well dressed and the Not. Polished toes and Not. The legal, the illegal. The sheltered, the unsheltered…

I realize if I collect any more Cold in my heart, I’ll start dishing it out for free. So I’m deciding to collect Warmth. No ban on that one. What do you say. Big favor to the human race. I love this Post. Get the feeling God likes this one too. Nothing to complain about, just be a collector of goodnesses. Receive it in big armloads. And if its not there recently, serve it from when we last received

I’m trying.

Loads of goodwill,

RN

  1. Well, this made me think about leaning harder into the parts of myself I usually shrug off. Thanks for that nudge.

          1. Thank you so much for your interest and for asking about our work.
We are a small animal rescue initiative called Panagah Amn (Safe Shelter) in Kabul, Afghanistan. Every day, we feed and care for stray dogs and cats who have no shelter, no food, and no one to protect them. Many are injured, sick, or abandoned, and we try our best to help them survive.
Our goal is to create a safe shelter with a small veterinary clinic where these innocent animals can receive treatment, food, and a warm place to stay.
So far, we have not received support from any person or organization. I am running this work alone using my personal budget, but my funds are running out. That’s why we truly need a kind person or foundation to support us and help make this beautiful project a reality.
If possible, please support us by sharing our work and our website with others. Even one share can help us find a sponsor and save more lives. 🐾🤍

Honestly, I am not doing very well these days. I just try to get through each day and keep going. The only time I feel real peace and happiness is when I imagine the day Panagah Amn becomes real and this project succeeds. That dream is what keeps me strong and moving forward.
Thank you for sharing our story and for caring so deeply. Please keep us in your prayers, and if you can, continue sharing our posts so we can find more support for these innocent souls.

Yes, we are on Instagram too, but sadly we don’t receive much support there. People mostly just watch, and very few actually help or share.
Here in Afghanistan, there are only a couple of small organizations, and they can barely cover their own expenses, so they are not able to support us. For now, we are looking for kind individuals, donors, or investors who can sponsor us and help us build this shelter.
If you would like, I can send you our Instagram link as well. And please feel free to read our new posts and share them whenever you can — every share truly helps us reach more people.
Thank you again for caring so deeply. God bless you and your family. 🐾

                    3. Yes Panagha, do share your Instagram link. Our prayers are with you; cannot imagine what your 24×7 is, but can understand. India here is in need of much prayer too, with humans desperate for daily shelter or bread.
I pray the Light of the living God hold and fill you with peace, and purpose for living. Will be reading your posts and sharing soon. This life with all its challenges is short and there is Eternity ahead. My own heart (& circumstances even here) draw courage from Christ Who gave His life that I/ we might live free in Him, eternally, and right here.
We pray strength, protection and the Light of His defense be truly yours.

simple acts of just being friendly can be so mind-changing can’t they? to not have the questions and just have the time together? Fantastic for you (and Yona). visiting from FMF11

    1. “..to not have the questions, and just the time together…” You put that so well Annette. Yes, its a God sent relief to run into folks, even strangers, who allow you to breathe, feel ‘normal’ and then go on. Sure there are well meaning folk, who have blest us with their insight, prayers and wisdom. Then there’s this who stare, who follow me with questioning eyes. Two distinct people who came up to me and said this was a curse maybe handed down generations.
I’ve learned to just move on, but recently we feel for our son who, thank God, is smitten by constant sense of humor😅

I appreciate your perspective! It must get so tiring when people focus on your son’s blindness and not really SEE him! We all need to keep vigilance on our hearts and not grow cold. I applaud you on introspecting and letting God bring fresh Warmth! Your story’s a reminder, too, that sometimes a simple conversation can bring so much healing to another person’s heart.

    1. Absolutely. Yes it is fatiguing, till your jaw drops in embarrassment for the other person 😅.

Im learning to run with it, but not quite. These days, good ppl startle me. Good moments arrive like high speed miracles and one needs to shift gear quick. If that explains it. Yes taking it to God always brings in warmth.

Oh yes, “just a simple convo., people, listening to the other, waiting, before they say something not needed…”

Thank you for being here, and for the warmth shared. 🙏🏼
