Our blind mimicker & what the turkeys showed us

: For FMF Writers: Turkey

The closest we’ve been to turkeys was at a town -side Eatery, 100 kms from here, few years ago. Our son was at his mimicking best;

who knew the place had a Turkey population?

Yona heard them and called back with all his lungs. Before we knew it, there were at least ten of those beauties arriving. If I ever saw a chaotic huddle, that was it. We have that episode on record somewhere. Yona, (blind from birth) the turkeys circling him in waggy chin locks. A brotherhood of havoc: two different species congregating in shared chaos. I can never forget our son’s face – he couldn’t leave, he couldn’t stay. Heh! They couldn’t know he was a mimic, he couldn’t see their wobble chin and flaring multi- tails and puff chests. We had to rescue him ofcourse. 😃

Wonder where the dear turkeys are now.

In other news, we had a visit scheduled to Turkey, but that got squashed after recent terror in our borders. Am praying the clarity and wisdom of God rule our responses. Often we mimic the world around us. We mayn’t truly know what we’re doing.

As another day begins, and goes to dusk, I hear temple bells, and a mosque. Today there will be babies born, there will be departures. Am praying the Light of the Loving God fill us each with that Power which raised Jesus from the dead. May this day remind us we (born out of the Breath of God), were made to not just blend into everyday circumstance. We are soul, born to immortality.

May every day be a celebration of who we really are, and Whose.

oh the joy on that face, made me smile!

You also may me smile with your use of mayn’t. Not a common word and I love the use of the uncommon, but readily identifiable words. 🙂 FMF5

  4. From Shawn Solomon, our Super Chef UK dear friend, (I wish you’d start a blog yourself Shawn, you write like an angel)🙏🏼

    Quote:

“Rayla, your writing shines with a rare blend of tenderness and insight. You’ve taken an everyday moment with turkeys and transformed it into a vivid reminder of deeper truths.

    The Beauty of Innocent Mimicry

Your story of Yona and the turkeys is more than charming; its profound. You draw out how easily we mimic the sounds, moods, and movements around us without fully understanding the forces at play. Just like Yona’s playful call drew a whole chaotic flock, we too do stumble into situations simply by echoing the world. You remind me, so gently, that imitation without awareness can lead us into unexpected crowds. Yet you frame it with warmth, humour, holiness and love, letting the ltrue esson land softly.

The Call to Live From a Higher Identity

The shift from the turkey episode to the current uncertainties around you is seamless and strong. You speak hope into heaviness. Your reminder that we are “born of the Breath of God… made for immortality” is powerful. Instead of mimicking the world’s fear or confusion, you call us back to our true centee, The True Light, The Only Power, The identity we carry because of Whose we are. It’s grounding, comforting, and deeply faith filled.

    1. Sandra❣️ You’re able to comment ? Delighted! Thank you, yes. Yona is still one creation of joy, with all his challenges, and he’s had a few these years.

Is healing though. So grateful for the Lords hand on him. Blindness isn’t easy. And can be terrific sometimes when we all forget to feel limited 😃 Such is the Grace of God.

      Thank you for being here

  6. What a neat experience for your son! Except so many turkeys may be scary, as noisy as they are.

I’m sorry about the terrorism and canceled trip. I can’t fathom what it’s like to live in such situations. I love your last line.
